Minnesota - Conciliation Court
IMPORTANT: YOUR FORMS WILL NOT BE FILED WITH THE COURT AT THIS TIME. YOU WILL NEED TO PRINT YOUR COMPLETED COURT FORMS AND FILE THEM DIRECTLY WITH THE COURT. COURT FILING FEES MAY APPLY AND ARE SEPARATE FROM TURBOCOURT SERVICE FEES.
IN WHICH COUNTY SHOULD I FILE MY CASE?
Generally, you must file your claim in the county where the problem or incident happened, or the county where the person you are making a claim against (the defendant) lives. If there are multiple defendants, you can sue where one or more live.
Exceptions include:
• A claim for a bad check must be filed in the county where the check was issued (written). You can sue in the county where you live if the dishonored check was issued in your county;
• Security deposits and rent claims may be filed in the county where the rental property is located;
• Corporations are sued in the county where the business is located (you may find where a business is registered by contacting the Minnesota Secretary of State at 651-296-2803)
For other exceptions, read the laws on Conciliation Court
